Striker: Is a good film

Feb 5, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Its December 1992 and curfew time in Malvani, Mumbai’s north western suburb when Suryakant Sarang aka Surya (Siddharth) arrives back in Mumbai from an out of town trip. Communal riots have broken out in the area mostly dominated by Muslims. Surya is stopped by the police, headed by local in charge Faroukh (Anupam Kher). But Surya is restless after he comes to know his family members have fallen prey to the riots. From hereon the narrative alternates between the flash back and current scenario mode. It narrates the tale of how Surya, a lower middle class boy, the youngest of the three siblings rises to become an ace carrom champion in the carrom betting syndicate headed by spearheaded by Jalil (Pancholi). Surya and Jalil keep crossing paths as Jalil desperately wants him to play under him. But Surya nurses a childhood grudge against him. Making matters more complicated is Surya’s childhood buddy Zaid (Ankur) who is working under Zaid.


Padmapriya excited about Striker

Though Padmapriya debuted with a Telugu film (Seenu Vasanthi Lakshmi), she went on to do more Tamil and Malayalam films. Once again, she will be doing a Telugu film, ‘Andari Banduvaya’, directed by Chandra Siddhartha. But it is her Hindi film, ‘Striker’ that she is currently excited about.


Striker director did not expect much from Siddharth

‘Striker’ is the story of a character named ‘Yuva’ who is trying to make his life better and face the difficult situation he is trapped in while doing so. The film is set in the ghettos of Mumbai of the mid 80’s. It is it intense and looks intense unlike the previous films. Besides there is no conscious efforts for making a particular subject oriented movie.


Ambitious Padmapriya

Padmapriya has, time and again, proved her mettle as an actress in the Tamil films that she has done. She is not just a good actress but has also impressed people with her looks. She takes pride in the fact that she is always willing to try out new roles.


Sarathkumar in Malayalam films again

Tamil star Sarathkumar, who was seen in Pazhassi Raja is doing another Malayalam film. He has a cameo role in Mohanlal’s Christian Brothers, which is directed by Joshi.


6 Big releases for Pongal

Pazhassi Raja wins most of the AMMA awards

At the recently held Annual Malayalam Movie Awards, Pazhassi Raja took away the cake. While it received the best movie award, the lead actress of the film, Kanika, got the best actress award. The best direction award went to Hariharan and the best screenplay award to Vasudevan Nair. Resul Pookutty and Amritha Preetham won awards for the best sound while Ilayaraja and Padmapriya were awarded the best music director and a special award respectively.
