By rachana trivedi on Wednesday, August 19th, 2009
Salman Khan

Salman you have done the action all by yourself in WANTED. Are you satisfied with the final result?

I am quite satisfied, as I have gone through a lot of training for this film and have stretched myself a lot. May it be dancing or action, I needed the training, and the outcome of it has been good, according to me.

Kashmiri kid wants to be a Shahrukh-Sachin-Bhaichung: Piyush Jha director SIKANDAR

By Subhash K Jha on Wednesday, August 19th, 2009
Sikandar

Piyush Jha has come home. Ten years ago he made a spoof film Chalo America about the compulsive and rampant NRI-ship among young Indians. Now Jha is totally on home turf with a film about a burning Indian issue. Sikandar takes us into the heartland of Kashmir militancy and was shot completely on location to the sound of booming guns and screaming bullets. That a filmmaker of Sudhir Mishra’s strong political leanings had enough faith in Piyush to let him do a film on Kashmir says it all. Piyush Jha talks to Subhash K Jha.

Jhansi Ki Rani has lot of action in her life? How did you manage to learn the weapons?

I learnt horse riding and sword fighting for two months at Versova Beach. Along side, I read the book on Jhansi Ki Rani, which had lots of information about it. Thankfully, when I practiced all this, my vacation was going on. Also, I had been to the workshop to learn the shloka’s and the body language of how Jhansi Ki Rani was.

The posh Toronto International Film Festival, which opens on September 10, has a unique lineup of Indian films this year.

The two Bollywood entries are Ashutosh Gowariker’s What’s Your Raashee, and first time director Anurag Singh’s Dil Bole Hadippa. Both share a common trait. They’re both female-centric products from a film industry notorious for male domination.

Kaminey

Vishal Bhardwaj has done it. His ‘Kaminey’ has hit the bull’s eye, hence continuing cheers for Bollywood, which has now seen fourth big money spinner in a row.

Even though the film didn’t release in Mumbai and Pune, two major centers for any Bollywood movie to succeed in a major way, ‘Kaminey’ has marched along strongly. In it’s opening weekend itself, the film has netted 17 crores, hence ensuring that Shahid Kapoor now has his biggest opening ever. Same holds good for Vishal Bhardwaj too, who now has a bona fide HIT in hands after critically acclaimed ‘Omkara’, ‘The Blue Umbrella’, ‘Maqbool’ and ‘Makdee’.

Karan Johar Foxed by the deal!

By Subhash K Jha on Wednesday, August 19th, 2009
Karan Johar

You’ve apparently inked a deal with 20th Century Fox for an astronomical never-heard-of amount of money?

Let me tell you the amount mentioned is nowhere near being a realistic amount. The deal among Star Fox studios, my company and Red Chillies is an internal matter and can’t be discussed in public. What makes this deal so historic is not the money involved, but the attempt to cross the disapora with a Hindi-language film My Name Is Khan. We’ll reach out in places where Hindi-language films have not gone before.

Bollywood Hit By Swine Flu, But No One Is Complaining!

By Subhash K Jha on Tuesday, August 18th, 2009
Shabana Azmi

Shabana Azmi- “The swine flu has not really affected our lives at all. The hysteria it has generated can only hamper the cure. Instead of apportioning blame we should act as responsible citizens and make sure the citizens are alerted, warned and informed about the disease.”

Hema Malini- “I’m not able to understand the gravity of it. I’m scheduled to perform at several places for Janmashtami. But now the shows are being cancelled and I feel the seriousness of the situation. We shouldn’t take it lightly. We need to be very careful.”

The Khans React To Shah Rukh’s Humiliation

By Subhash K Jha on Tuesday, August 18th, 2009
Zayed Khan

Zayed Khan- “Of course we Khans go through this kind of humiliation all the time. I’ve gone through it; Salman has gone through it. I’m glad people are talking about it because of Shah Rukh. There have been times when I’ve been with 17 people in a team on tour, or for a shooting in the US. Out of these only one gets detained on the airport while the others get cleared in no time at all. Guess who invariably gets detained? And some Caucasian bully who does these checking by the book and who thinks all Khans are terrorists will tell you it’s a random check. Tell me, how can there be random checks on 5 US airports one after another and in all of them only yours truly gets detained for additional checking? I think there’s a big difference between being secure and being ignorant. I think American investigation agencies need to take a close look at the way they treat a certain community of people. How uncool is to humiliate your guests? We in our family have stopped going to the US because of these, ha-ha random checks on the airport. We don’t go to the US for holidays, only for work and to meet family and close friends. The Americans must realize they’re losing out on a lot of goodwill. They first insulted our former president Abdul Kalam. And now Shah Rukh. Humiliation of Indians anywhere is unacceptable. Nothing has been done about racist attacks on Indian students in Australia. I see no difference between what’s done in Australia and in the US to Indians.”
